FUNK: Evolution of a Revolution | World Premiere

April 16th 2016 was a monumental day for the music scene in Abu Dhabi. New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) brought in Funk OG’s Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley to school us on FUNK!!! This was not just a concert… this was a education. Wait wait wait… before we more on. If you don’t know who Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley are… click on their names to read their bios. These are the guys who wrote and played with James Brown… Oh yeah… NOW you wanna click the links!!!

This ensemble took us on a journey from when/why/where and how Funk started in the 50’s where it is now. Guest appearances included Carleen Anderson, Add-2DJ Nickodemus and our very own brother Hamdan Al Abri. I mean what you can’t say FUNK in UAE without Hamdan Al Abri in the same sentence right?

Shout out to Bill Bragin and his team at NYUAD for putting this together. You deserve a few awards for this…
